ORTOMAT-MTC

The ORTOMAT-MTC is a correlating noise logger for the permanent detection of leaks in drinking water pipelines, manufactured by vonRoll hydro, a Swiss supplier specialized in infrastructure solutions for water and gas networks. The device is part of the ORTOMAT system, used worldwide for continuous monitoring of underground water networks.

Its operating principle is based on a highly sensitive vibration sensor (hydrophone) that permanently records the noise structure at the measuring point, prioritizing hours of lowest water consumption to maximize accuracy. Through correlation technology, the system compares audio files from two neighboring loggers and calculates the exact location of the leak between both points.

Unlike traditional manual acoustic inspection, the ORTOMAT-MTC operates fully automated: it transmits data directly to the server via 4G, LTE-M, or NB-IoT mobile networks, without the need to install repeaters or additional wireless networks in the field. Configuration and firmware updates are carried out remotely through Over-the-Air (OTA/FOTA) programming.

The device integrates with the INFRAPORT web platform, where users can check the status and location of all installed loggers at any time and receive email alerts when a leak is detected. It also includes the HydroALERT function, which detects unauthorized water withdrawal at hydrants.
